Once a staunch supporter of Trump’s 2024 reelection bid, Carlson has grown increasingly critical of the former president, especially regarding US foreign policy in the Middle East. He argued that many Americans feel alienated from the political system, citing the failure of Republicans to dismantle the so-called "deep state" and pointing to unresolved issues like the Jeffrey Epstein case as evidence of lost faith.

Highlighting his break with Trump, Carlson criticized the US’s support for Israel in its ongoing conflict with Gaza and urged Trump not to escalate tensions with Iran during the 12-day war in June 2025. Their disagreement intensified after the US joined Israeli strikes against Iran in February, with Carlson accusing Trump of favoring Israeli interests over those of America. He even labeled Trump’s allegiance as "Israelism" and condemned the Iran war as "disgusting and evil."

"Trump allowed the US government to be completely steered by this tiny little country in the Middle East, Israel, to our great detriment," Carlson told Bloomberg. He added that his direct warnings against this policy were ignored, which eventually led the US into a damaging conflict with Iran.

According to US Central Command, the US completed its sixth consecutive night of strikes as of Thursday, following Trump’s threats to target Iranian energy infrastructure and bridges. Iran has retaliated with drone and missile attacks on US military bases in the region. Tehran has also threatened to disrupt regional oil and gas exports, and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy declared the Strait of Hormuz closed until the US ends what it calls its "illegal" military intervention.
